Gmail web interface for iPad is nice!

Holy pink potatoes!

Have you been wondering what iPad web apps are going to be like? Well it seems that a few websites (like gMail) have got iPad web apps up and running already and it looks nice! One thing i have noticed is that scrolling is not smooth when you run it in the iPad simulator(i couldnt resist). I personally would love to see the desktop version of gmail get this kind of interface redo with panes.

Today you (yes you who probebly doesnt have a iPad yet) can test it out by launching Safari on your desktop and changing your useragent to the following:

Mozilla/5.0(iPad; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B314 Safari/531.21.10

When pasting it in, remember to remove any new line characters in the middle and the ends.

FYI, To change the user agent, of safari…

  1. Launch Safari
  2. Go to preferences
  3. Go to advanced
  4. Tick to enable the “Show enable in the menu bar” option.
  5. Close preferences
  6. Go to gmail
  7. Go to the new Develop menu -> User Agent -> Other…
  8. Paste the user agent above in without the newlines
  9. Click ok and see it come to life!
