The Scrabbinator 2 is almost here!

A few weeks ago, I released version 1 of my Scrabble Scrabbinator aka the WordDice. When I originally released it, I despised the how the content was laid out and how so much screen space was being wasted by content that is rarely used. My interest in HCI definitely fueled my guilt.

The Scrabble Scrabbinator

I recently decided to pull out one of my old university assignments and make it into a website so everyone can use it. A few days later… the Word Dice was born! The idea behind it is to search a very large scrabble dictionary for words that match a particular pattern. So, why not challenge a friend in Words with Friends while using Word Dice.

Currently I despise the layout of the website so i might be updating it something… more meaningful. For people that are interested in how the monkeys find the matching words, I’ll be releasing the server-side source code in a few days.

Quick and easy way to find yourself.

Recently I was somewhat shocked to see that there wasn’t a site similar to http://www.whatismyip.com/ for finding GPS coordinates. So i set out to create it. 6 hours later, you have http://www.whatizmygps.com/. All you need is a web browser that supports HTML5 geolocations… Check it out.. Its not perfect, but it works.

Week 7 thesis presentation

On friday Pallavi Sah and I presented our ideas for our thesis on online teaching and learning to our supervisor and assessor. For those that are unfamiliar with our topic, it is about looking into ways to integrate HTML 5 features such as the video tag and the canvas tag into a online learning environment. A way to summarise it would be to describe it as merging the concepts found in facebook and YouTube with forums.
To bring you up to speed with what we have done, here is a Prezi which outlines what we have done and what we are going to be doing over the coming weeks.
